Once she mastered walking, Grace has really turned her attention on words now. She's been saying mama and dada for several months now, but just this week she's really started using them to refer specifically to us. Especially when she wants out of her crib! Often when I go to pick her up after her nap, she'll be standing there at the crib rail and hold her arms out to me saying "ma-ma! ma-ma!". And often signing for milk.
And just yesterday, she started saying "uh-oh!" At least, I think that's what she's saying. I'd been using it for awhile hoping she'd mimic. (Really, what could be cuter than a little one-year old toddling around saying "uh-oh"?) While we were eating dinner, she sat in her highchair saying "uh-ooh" over and over. And indeed, it was pretty adorable.

Grace's First Birthday!
We just got back from a nice, long vacation back in Texas where we celebrated Grace's first birthday with all her grandparents. More later!

Grace charming the hotel guests
We drove down to Seatac and Grace played in the hotel lobby and waved to guests while we waited for Uncle Phil.
First Words
Grace babbles alot, and we've been hearing mama and dada for awhile, though not very often. But now that she's gotten this walking-thing figured out, we're hearing all kinds of words. This week, a couple days ago, I could swear I heard her say "book", and yesterday it was "cracker", though neither have showed up for a repeat performance yet. We also sporadically hear "ba" for ball, and "da" for dada, duck or dog. She generally prefers to pant - the baby sign we taught her for dog.

Due Date 2009
Grace's due date was one year ago today! We originally told everybody that it was August 11th, only to discover a few months in that we'd gotten it wrong, and the due date was actually August 4th. Laura's not feeling well today (just like last year!), although this time it's allergies and not a sleeping baby. She took Grace to the KidsQuest Museum today, where Grace toddled around, explored, and played with lots of interesting things -- she sure has come a long way in the past year!
