Once she mastered walking, Grace has really turned her attention on words now. She's been saying mama and dada for several months now, but just this week she's really started using them to refer specifically to us. Especially when she wants out of her crib! Often when I go to pick her up after her nap, she'll be standing there at the crib rail and hold her arms out to me saying "ma-ma! ma-ma!". And often signing for milk.
And just yesterday, she started saying "uh-oh!" At least, I think that's what she's saying. I'd been using it for awhile hoping she'd mimic. (Really, what could be cuter than a little one-year old toddling around saying "uh-oh"?) While we were eating dinner, she sat in her highchair saying "uh-ooh" over and over. And indeed, it was pretty adorable.

Our grandbaby is doing the opposite of Gracie, it seems. Isabella is pretty much refusing to walk, but is putting all her energy in to talking, with new words every day from three languages (English, Spanish, Amharic). And yes, there is nothing in the world cuter than hearing a child learn to talk, esp. for a linguist!
